adulting 101

Do you ever feel like you don’t completely have your life together?  Or that you weren’t properly taught how to do certain “adult” responsibilities, like filing your taxes or changing a tire?  Does growing up scare you?  Most of us young adults have felt like this at least a few times in our life, but that scary feeling doesn’t have to stay for much longer.

Grow Up and Glow Up is an online service that gives young adults the guidance to become their best selves.  We are here to help with the simple tasks that don’t sound that simple at first.

Our mission statement includes: “We already made the mistakes, so you don’t have to. Get ready to grow up and glow up.”  Our brand truly believes that with the right instruction and advice, those annoying “adulting” tasks won’t seem so annoying after all.

Always Happy

At 25 years old, I’m finally starting to understand what emotions are. I mean I knew how you should feel if something bad happened in your life, such as failing a test, a family member passing, a break-up, etc. But, growing up in a Indian household my parents taught my sister and I to ignore our feelings. Feelings are for the weak and the only thing you should feel is celebrating achievements in your life.

Now when I write this out I’m not saying that I don’t have emotions, I just didn’t know how to handle them. I’m sure many first generation kids in America know exactly what I mean. Always taught to ignore our feelings and not address them, yet we have to make sure we are emotionally stable. The term I like to quote it as is “always happy.” Why is always happy in quotes you are probably asking? Because that was how I was taught to show myself off to the world. I had to be a charismatic character and show my best side because feeling sad or anything else was weak.

Well guess what, it definitely is not weak, showing emotions shows 3 different types of strengths in my opinion.

  1. You are in touch with who you are and allow yourself to feel each moment.

  2. Once you realize what you are feeling you understand how to combat it. Which results in creating a better version of yourself.

  3. Happiness is not a goal, being content with who you are is what it’s about.

    1. If you can spend time alone in your own skin, you own the world.

Life’s difficult and each person faces different challenges. Money, relationships, career, etc., but if you can find zen within yourself you will own the world. It’s about looking at what you have and appreciating it, while being hungry to get better.

Growth mindset will take you to the next level and open your eyes to appreciate what is in front of you.
